Tax Credits

One benefit of the zone that many employers get the most credit for is the HIRING TAX CREDIT, which can amount to a credit of up to $11,700 for the 1st year an employee was hired. In order for company to get this credit, the employee must be VOUCHERED. This is done through the Imperial Valley Enterprise Zone.

How to go about getting a voucher.

  1. Fill out/ or have the employee fill out the following NEW VOUCHER APPLICATION. If the employee fulfills one of the eligibility requirements, check the eligibility box that applies and provide the supporting documentation.
  2. Complete the APPLICATION with all required documentation and send to the Imperial Valley Enterprise Zone along with a $25.00 processing fee per employee. 
  3. If eligible, a completed voucher will be sent in the mail to the business from the Enterprise Zone within 72 hours of receiving a complete and eligible voucher application.

Release of Information

Sometimes employees do not have their supporting documents readily available. The IVEZ may be able to pull up this information for them through the One Stop system in lieu of presenting the documents. If the employee signs the Release of Information document and mails to the IVEZ, the One Stop might be able to verify the following eligibility categories:

  1. Enrolled in Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Intensive Service or Core B
  2. Participant in welfare-to-work activities under CALWORKS
  3. Recipient of or eligible to receive public assistance
  4. Economically disadvantaged

Tax Information for Employees Working in an Enterprise Zone

Did you know that you may be eligible for a state tax credit worth up to $525 as an employee working for a business located in the Imperial Valley Enterprise Zone? Download a copy of the Franchise Tax Board’s Form 3553 to find out!!!! Fill out the form and if it results in a credit, attach it to your California tax return and save money! Your employer doesn’t have to get you vouchered to be eligible to obtain the tax credit! So, even if you don’t qualify for a voucher, you can still claim the credit! click here
